SERV Leagues and Programs

SERV SUMMER PROGRAMS

Several star players around the area began playing volleyball in SERV's Summer Program. Since most guys in this area start playing volleyball in the tenth grade, boys who have played have had a jump start over their team-mates in high school.

SERV offers a Co-ed Youth Summer League, a High School Girls Captain League, and a High School Boys Captain League. Signups:

Registration for AAU Membership
(Required by all Participants; SERV Club Code: enter W34395 when prompted)

Registration for Summer League (June 10 - August 10)

Registration for Boys Captains League (July 7 - August 11)

Registration for Girls Captains League (July 7 - August 11)

Youth Summer League SERVes as a way for athletes to get used to travel coaches as they learn how to play volleyball. It also SERVes as a gateway for athletes to enter the Travel Program. Furthermore, the league helps get touches during the "off season."

SERV Summer League Staff

The SERV Summer League is run by SERV Travel Program Coaches. Ashley Winingham and Annie Tulensru are former SERV standouts who are now coach year-round. They will be supported by  several collegiate players. We are very proud of our former players who come back to pay it forward!  Jeff Hou, Rico Rodriguez, and Nick Arnett are among some of the volunteers.

Abby uses her overhead passing skills at Randolph Macon.

Deep Creek Standout Alysa Thombs played SERV U12-U18s. She also SERVed as an Assistant Coach for the 13 Impact team her senior year before heading to Salem College to play at the collegiate level.

Grassfield Standout Abby Linsky played two SERV seasons with rapid progression in her skillset. She was able to skip U16s and played for another club at 17s and 18s before earning her spot as a Right Side Hitter for Randolph Macon.

The Beach District standout from Landstown played for SERV's Upper teams from U13 thru U18. She has SERVed as a great role model for her sisters as a volunteer coach for her sisters' teams over the years before earning her spot on the Goucher College Voll

Kayde played for SERV for five seasons. She recently graduated from the nursing progrm at Bryant & Stratton where she was a leader of both the Indoor and Sand Volleyball Teams.

Kempsville's Kailee Turner played several years at Coastal before playing her senior year for SERV 18Select. Years of training afforded Kailee to lead the Goucher College offense as a freshman. Also, in her off-season, Kailee can be found helping SERV U12

Grassfield standout Claire Schuette played 7 seasons for SERV. She is a hard worker on-and off-the-court. In her junior year, Claire held herself accountable by logging her daily exercises so she could see what hard work looks like on a calendar.

Sydney played for SERV through 15s. She now plays for the Roanoke College .

Claire Schutte (#20), Abby Linsky (#12), Kayde Fitzgerald (L#13), and Sydney Harrison (L#5) were members of our very successful 14Black team. These girls worked really hard over the years to prepare to play at the collegiate level.

SERV Youth Summer League (June 10 - August 10)

The Youth Summer League for is ages 8-18 girls and boys to play at their level. We do not separate the athletes by age. Typically, the levels consist of the following:

Beginners Boot Camp: Young athletes who have never played organized volleyball (May 13 - June 8)

Intermediate:  Stronger than Beginners; Middle School and High School athletes with less than two years of travel volleyball experience.

Advanced: The Strongest level offered for individuals who want to keep sharpening their skills.  For Girls: We recommend the athletes with two or more years of travel or at least a year of JV or Varsity seasons.  For Boys: Depending on the size of the individual, at least one year of organized volleyball.

We want to keep everyone safe. So, stronger players need to be in the advanced league.

SERV Captains Leagues (SUMMER PROGRAM ~July 7-August 11)

Multiple SERV players continued to play volleyball in college. (Siena Heights, Randolph Macon, King, Charleston (WV), among others)

The Captain's League is comprised of local High School teams who are led by the players, rather than a coach. Guidance is given by SERV Coaches and College Players (Former SERV athletes). They share their experiences and lead the teams through warmup drills before competition starts.  Each week, a round robin schedule is followed.

The league meets on Sundays starting mid-June through the first week of August.

  • Girls: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM            Boys: 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Pictured here with Karch Kiraly and his Olympic Gold medals, is USAV's ALL USA standout Makeba Davis. Karch asked Makeba to demonstrate volleyball equipment Karch was endorsing at that time.

This year's Boys Captain's League will be run by SERV 18Beast Head Coach Makeba Davis. Davis earned All-State accolades in three-sports in high school.  Track, basketball and soccer were his sports until he discovered competitive volleyball in college. Now in his 60's, at 6'-2", Davis still touches over 10'-0".  While he is considered a master of his craft, Makeba remains a student of the game.  Davis spent a few years of his career as a D-I Women's Volleyball Coach. Now, he coaches Green Run High School athletes in volleyball and track.

Several Hampton Roads Standouts will be assisting Coach Davis with the League. SERV Coaches Jeff Hou,  Arjay Harris, and Max Kuntz will help lead.  Local SERV standouts who play college will be dropping in to share their knowledge of the game.

Girls Captain's League Coaching Staff

The Girls High School Captains League will be led by SERV Coach Jasmyn Cuffee. Coach Cuffee attended Salem High School.  Her work ethic and drive were infectious. During the spring, she would assist the coaching Staff at Salem Middle School.  She played travel volleyball too. Coach Kelly Mills said that Jasmyn was an integral part of the program's turn about from being 8th in the Beach District to being fifth in the State. She knows the impact team-mates can have on each other.  At Oscar Smith High School and at SERV, she has served as a Head Coach and as an Assistant Coach.

This Summer Captains League, Coach Jasmyn has lined up of college coaches and players who will contribute positive energy to their  respective teams.  Each will share insight on how players can set themselves up for success.  University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Goucher College, Randolph College, and Norfolk State University Coaching Staff will be represented in the league.
